Youth Group Activities

Youth Group activities at United Church of Huntsville give our teens opportunities for spiritual development. We do this both through social interaction and in service to others.

Youth

We work to awaken awareness in our teens of their responsibilities as Christians, and as members of a church community with a history of advocacy for human and civil rights. We encourage our youth to dream of a community that treats the disadvantaged with tenderness, confronts all forms of discrimination, and challenges cruelty. We work with our youth to put these ideals into action and make them a way of life.

The Pastor teaches a Confirmation class for 8th graders. Those teens who make a decision to join the church are confirmed on Palm Sunday.

Some examples of our activities are:

February: “Souper Bowl of Caring” mission activity: money is raised annually on “Souper Bowl Sunday”. Youth Group members carry soup pots from person to person asking for donations. This past year the amount collected went to Tsunami Relief.
March-April: The Youth Group hosted an “Annual Easter Egg” Hunt for younger children that involved eggs, candy, games, and a large white rabbit. There is a reception for the confirmands on Palm Sunday.

Easter
April: This year we had a “Movie Night Lock-In”.
May: The Youth Group helps with teacher appreciation awards.
June: This is “Vacation Bible School” month. This year many of the older youth ran the VBS program for the younger children with gracious help from adults in key positions.
August: We enjoyed two pool parties and a Scavenger Hunt.
September: There was an all church “Rally Day” picnic.
